Meet Our Board
Richard Chackerian, Ph.D., taught and did research at Florida State University for thirty four years before his retirement in 2003. His research and teaching reflect his lifelong interest in how the large tides of history effect our institutions and in turn how individuals define who they are and what they value. Richard is the son of 1920 immigrants from Turkey to the United States. He helped found Nor Luyce is 2009.
Ara Chackerian is an entrepreneur, angel investor and dedicated philanthropist. As Managing Director of ASC Capital Holdings LLC, Ara invests in early stage healthcare companies that are committed to reinventing the US healthcare system. Ara has more than two decades of experience in building healthcare companies.
Ara has co-founded multiple companies in this space including BMC Diagnostics, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging services, PipelineRx, a national provider of telepharmacy services and TMS Health Solutions, a California-based integrated behavioral health services provider with eight locations. Ara’s executive level operating experience includes Chief Executive Officer of BMC Diagnostics, Executive Chairman of PipelineRx and TMS Health Solutions, as well as Executive Vice President at PSS/World Medical, an international medical products distributor.
In late 2009, Ara and his father, Richard Chackerian, visited Armenia where Ara’s grandparents and family had emigrated from. During that trip, the father and son were introduced to an orphanage; full of potential but lacking in resources. After visiting the center, Ara and Richard determined there was an unfulfilled need for mentoring the local orphans. Having returned from their time abroad, the Chackerian’s came up with a business plan to solve the orphans’ lack of accessibility to support systems and educational resources. Out of this, Nor Luyce was born.
Nor Luyce, a mentoring program, was created to assist young women on their transition from being an orphan to a self-supporting adult. The organization has had a remarkable track record of success and continues to help transition adolescent females into constructive members of the community and educated adults. Ara sits on the organization’s Board and has been the primary funding source for the program since its inception.
The Chackerian’s have a deep commitment to giving back. Over the last decade, they have founded and supported multiple non-profits focused on youth development and education. They currently have efforts in Armenia, Nicaragua and the United States.
Ara Chackerian graduated from Florida State University with B.S. in marketing.
